“Music is a communication of the Divine,” China Isler says. A child of rock and one who put her faith in the rock of her savior, Jesus Christ, China Isler grew up as the daughter of two members of the hit 70s ban Jefferson Airplane. She began her passion to empower people with the 12 step recovery at the age of 15. After having been a counselor at multiple rehabs and sober living facilities, China studied theology at Loyola Marymount University.

Who else does China look up to beyond Jesus? “Bono has been my role model, the person I look to, for how to lead my life, especially with social justice activism,” China explains. She sees the arts as a vessel for the spirit, and while she has never met her role model, she hopes to one day. 

When asked what it was like to be raised by rockstars, China recounted, “I had a very interesting upbringing, a very colorful upbringing, complicated, layered, painful, beautiful, creative upbringing, and, and I'm very grateful for all of the experiences at this point in my life. I did not always feel that way. But at this point, I can say that I feel grateful for all the teachings that they gave me both how to be and how not to be. That's where I stand with it today.”

Being raised on rock and roll had its challenges but she sees it as a direction connection to her faith, reflecting “the arts are always a direct conduit for the spirit and for whatever you want to name it for the movement of the universe energy of love, higher power, God, Allah, whatever you want to say.” Looking back, her words relay how she sees the melody and the harmony and understands how it works together, even if it doesn’t seem to make sense when it’s being written.
