How to Build Muscles and Community!

Community builds Immunity!

May 21, 2021

“Without the community, you don't really have much of a business,” Justin Roth explains. Justin has been supporting physical fitness programming since he was a teen, ultimately pursuing a career in wellness and becoming certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine. These days he’s the owner, creator and occasional janitor of the Poise Fitness Studio in Hermosa Beach.

He is a business owner who strongly believes in the power of community and the ability of business owners to shape the culture of their companies, offering, “your community is a direct reflection on you.” Justin built his community to try and eliminate the pervasive encroachment of ego which is all too common in other fitness communities. He wanted to create a space where people could just be at whatever level they are without pressure.

His philosophy for fitness encourages taking breaks as needed, explaining, “I think we all have stronger, weaker days.” He believes pacing yourself according to your energy allows you to discover what works, get more done to leverage a second wind and build in healthy habits. He holds the belief that moderation makes you more willing to do it every day, instead of making exercise into a punishment.

He uses language around family when he’s teaching as a subtle way to pull everybody together. This is consistent with his fitness community focus. As part of taking care of his fitness family, Justin has made his workouts available free on Youtube. That spirit of generosity is something that makes Justin such an asset to his community and warms the hearts as he helps raise their heart rate safely. In response to his generous gift, Justin’s community gave back through GoFundMe and the circle of giving continued, proving Justin’s ultimate point: Without the community, you don't really have much of a business.
